Success for Howes in the CSW Primary PE and Sport Premium Awards

Having applied for the CSW Primary PE and Sport Premium Awards, we are delighted to announce that we have been successful in the category of Physical Activity and Health Enhancing Initiatives.

The awards recognise schools that have innovated and endeavoured to provide outcomes for pupils using the Primary PE and Sport Premium grant.

The judges were extremely impressed with our application which showed the impact of the funding on our pupils engagement in physical activity. We are very excited to now represent Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sport in round two, the regional awards, where we will be up against winners from the other five West Midlands County Sports Partnerships (Active Black Country, Sport across Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent (SASSOT), Sport Birmingham, Sports Partnership Herefordshire Worcestershire and Energize (Shropshire)). We hope to hear the outcome of this very soon.

Representatives from Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Sport will be coming into school soon to present us with our trophy in assembly.

Coventry City Football Player Visit

Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visit from three Coventry City football players as a reward for good attendance and good attitudes to learning. The players talked to the children about how they started playing football and the importance of training hard and working as a team. They signed bookmarks from the Primary Stars football reading scheme. Before they left, they gave the children a real treat by playing a bit of football with the children… Dany (Yr 5) said that it was the best day of his life!

HIU Tennis Camp

In July children from HIU were invited to the National Tennis Centre in Nottingham for a Deaf Tennis Camp.We all had to leave early one Sunday morning to get to Nottingham in time. It was very exciting going there all together in the minibus. We were really lucky as the coaches working with us were Deaf Tennis champions so they were able to give us lots of great tips. Our tennis really improved throughout the day and we are going to carry on working on our tennis skills at school.

Sports Day and Family Picnic

All families were invited to join us for a morning of fun sports activities. Children worked in house teams to complete a number of challenges that were set up on the field and playground. Teams were awarded points for skill, effort and teamwork. Everyone worked really hard to try and win the Sports Day trophies. In addition to the challenges, all children took part in class races which were very exciting.

After a morning of hard work, everyone had a well-earned rest at our family picnic. It was lovely to see so many families enjoying having a picnic lunch together on the field.
