Meet the Governors

Governors

Governors play an increasingly important role in the life of the school, taking more and more important decisions on your behalf.  Parents have the opportunity to elect Parent Governors every four years, or as a vacancy occurs and when the time comes we will send out further details.

Current members of the Governing Body are listed  below.

Anita White -Chair of Governors

I have been a Governor at Howes for the past four years. I am currently a Parent Governor. I work part time as a Communications and Fundraising officer for a local charity.  I have a child at the school and have very much enjoyed being part of the school community for the last six years. I am passionate about Howes Primary school, supporting the staff and the school leadership team to achieve the very best for the children here. As a governing body, we work closely with the school to ensure the children have the best possible opportunities to succeed and flourish whilst at Howes.

Colin Marscheider – Vice Chair of Governors

I live locally and two of my sons spent time at Howes. I am semi-retired and spend time looking after grandchildren. My background is in engineering specifically radio frequency, telecommunications network design, software and general management and I left full time employment some time ago.
I am a Local Authority appointed governor and have been involved in Governing for around 20 years so have experience in most aspects of governance.

Councillor Richard Brown

With children and grandchildren of my own all living in Coventry, I am acutely aware of how important it is to ensure that all children are given the best possible start in life. This is at the very heart of what our school strives to provide.

It has been my privilege to represent the local community here in Cheylesmore as a Ward Councillor since 2014 and see, at first hand, both the challenges and opportunities that face us all. Our children deserve the very best and that is what I, and fellow governors will work tirelessly to deliver at Howes.

Debbie Newman

I have worked as a teacher and school leader for over 30 years. I still have a real passion for children and education and would like to support schools as they continue to work on improving outcomes and enabling the school community.  As a retired Headteacher who continues to work with schools, I am interested in all aspects of education and school life. However, children reaching their full potential and teachers being able to provide excellent learning is my main interest. I currently continue to support schools in my working life which means I have real insight into schools today.  I hope I can offer support and challenge to us as school leaders to ensure that the school is on a positive journey, providing an excellent education to the children of Howes Primary School.

Zoe Pollard – Headteacher

I am the headteacher at Howes Primary School and am extremely proud of the whole school community.  It is a privilege working with children and every decision that is made in the school has the child at the centre of it.  I am passionate that young people are given every chance to experience a wide variety of learning opportunities that will support them in becoming responsible, caring members of our ever-changing world.
I have been in education for almost twenty years and have had experience in many job families along the way.  Prior to working in education, I worked in finance, but started my journey of life in the performing arts.

Kristina Davies – Staff Governor

I have been a teacher for over twenty years and a teacher at Howes for six years. During that time, I have taught across all phases of the school. I am incredibly proud to be part of such a fantastic whole school community. It is an honour to work daily with such a fantastic group of children. I believe every child should have learning experiences and opportunities that enable them to become the ‘best they can be’ enabling them to leave our school and thrive as they enter the wider world. I am delighted to be taking on the role of staff governor so I can challenge and support the school as it moves forwards.

Abdul Khan – Co-Opted Governor

Carolyn Hickton – Parent Governor

I am a recently appointed parent governor at Howes. My two older children have attended this amazing school from nursery to year six and I currently have my youngest still at the school. I have worked with children and adults with special needs for the past twenty-five years and currently support children with SEN in a mainstream school. I really love working with children and helping them to reach their full potential and supporting them to succeed in all areas of life. Howes is a wonderful school where I have always felt included, it is a community school that prides itself in considering its students and parents/carers as part of a family.
