Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to Howes Community Primary School.
Thank you for visiting our school website and on behalf of the whole school community, I would like to welcome you to Howes Community Primary school. We hope that you find the website useful and informative and it gives you a glimpse into the wonderful world of Howes.
Howes Community Primary school is full to the brim of amazing children and staff who all strive to be the best that they can be. Children at Howes experience a range of exciting and innovative opportunities that enables everyone to shine, have fun and learn. We have approximately 200 children in school from Nursery to year six.
The school has recently expanded in size due to it’s popularity so we have opened up a straight Nursery class which is amazing. We take children from three years old preparing them for school life. The facilities in our Early Years Unit are tremendous and once the children go in there they don’t want to come out. We have an excellent outdoor area for inquisitive little people.
Due to the increased demand for places at Howes, we have recently reclaimed four classrooms that were in use by the Local Authority. Last year, Howes was recognised as being statistically the most popular school in Coventry. We are now almost a one form entry school which is just perfect. We are still a small school which means we are a true community school and we, children, staff, families and the wider community, are all part of the Howes family!
We are fortunate at Howes to have excellent facilities and a modern, bright school which supports the children’s learning opportunities. This has recently been completely renovated and the corridors are a continuation of the children’s learning travelling along different corridors within the Hamlet of Howes which includes a magical woodland library. Luckily, we also have a huge amount of outdoor space for sporting activities, Forest School and outdoor play. Play is important to us at Howes as it supports the children’s learning outside the classroom. We have recently become an OPAL school (Outdoor Play and Learning). Being outdoors and learning through experiences is at the heart of Howes.
The children at Howes display positive behaviour and they have beautiful manners, have outstanding attitudes to learning and an enthusiasm and zest for school life. Visitors regularly comment on the friendly and welcoming ethos and culture that we have in school. Being part of a diverse and inclusive school, the children and staff live out the values of the school daily as we prepare our children for their future years as responsible and respectful members of the local and wider community with the ability to overcome challenges that they may face in an ever-changing world.
We are fortunate to have a Hearing Resource Base as part of our inclusive school which supports children with profound hearing loss. This support is varied and could be individual work in the unit, but wherever possible the children are fully immersed in school life. We also have trained British Sign Language staff who teach the rest of the children and staff BSL so that we can communicate with our deaf friends through a total communication approach.
Our curriculum at Howes ensures that all children receive excellent teaching and experiences in all subjects. We ensure that children have time to revisit and embed their learning through a vast range of opportunities as they develop their skills and knowledge across the curriculum.
Every child shines at Howes!
As a school staff, we are very supportive to all of our children, but we also have Roux, our school dog mentor, who supports children with their learning and pastoral needs. We also work with the NHS Mental Health Nurse team to ensure that our children are supported with all needs whenever they need it.
I am proud to be the headteacher at Howes Community Primary School and feel privileged to be part of a great community family.
